Flying Moon in Space creates an eclectic form of neo-psychedelia on their sophomore album aptly titled Zwei.
The rhythm section rumbles on like a locomotive. A track like opener “Traum für Alle” with its tight beats reminds one of Neu!. Warped synthesizers pulsate throughout while the lyrics fall like mantra’s over the funky backing. It all results in a raucous yet robust rave of which “This Exists” may be exemplary.
Meanwhile eerie vocals haunt “Power” in the vein of Holy Other’s witch house. Something broods within this eminently danceable psychedelic pop with an industrial tinge. The tracks at times feel like terracotta figures, with modern-day anxiety its clay.
Flying Moon in Space ends the album with a step back from the rave. The dreamy “Dissoziation” rungs the gamut from alternative rock guitar to pensive gothic style arrangements. Closer “Prophet” the guitars bring a lounge vibe to some sophisticated synth pop music.
At times Zwei does feel too straightforwardly steady. Still their eclectic influences do come together in an at times enticing manner.
