Sharp and cutting guitars set the scene in on In One of These, I Am Your Enemy, an album of lightning fast black metal.
In the vein of the post-metal from a band like Altar of Plagues Terzij de Horde shifts gears continually on the titular track. From a raging tempo driven by drums to drawn-out riffs and even an intermezzo of dark ambient. Meanwhile vocalist Joost Vervoort untiringly cries out his lyrics. Ominous chord progressions rise up from the fierce solo guitars which quickly overwhelm. Especially on “Precipice” the shift from ambient to rage resonates the most thanks to a solid build-up.
Despite fluctuating between two extremes Terzij de Horde sticks to the same gloom throughout with the same progressions, rhythms and cries. Even though the apocalypse looms within the oppressive atmosphere it works exhausting.
Within the horde of Dutch black metal (e.g. Dystopia or Fluisteraars) this band therefore is unable to distinguish themselves due to their rather straightforward pessimism.
